Broiled Eel Liver aka EVIL

oh hell no.

By now a little sick Cookbad

Please make the flavor leave my mouth. Please please. 2 diet cokes and some mouthwash and I still have a flavor reminiscent of bile in my mouth. It most likely is actually bile. Eel bile.

Nice.

So, this isn't going to be the offal I use for the Paper Chef Challenge.

WTF is that white pearly sac? I'd be willing to bet a cup of demi-glace it is a bile sac.

OK, can I just ask what the hell were you thinking?! I consider myself pretty open to various offal-y things, but broiled eel liver? I'll pass. Not a big fan of fish livers in general, and yes, I've eaten several.

Wow. I salute your chutzpah, however...wow.

Yeah. No fun. It took me a good 7 hours to get that taste out of my mouth. With some weird bad stomach sensations in between. It just looked so promising in the dim lighting of the questionable store I bought if from.

I also forgot that a few kinds of sea living creatures livers are used in Haitian zombie rituals.

My bad.

Wow! You are full of adventure. I would not even sniff it.

I think the problem was in the broiling. The liver of any animal is basically a big filter; is they were broiled, even with the strongest sauce to counter it, the toxins in the animal's blood, stored in the liver, would just dehydrate and become stronger.

No wonder you had bad taste in your mouth, CookBad! Any liver, especially for a bottom-dweller like an eel, would have to be rinsed and blanched first, before ANYTHING could be done with it.

Then, as a rising cook myself, I would either skewer and GRILL, not broil, or even flour & fry. Now, that would taste a lot different, not to mention better, don't you think??

actually, I ate this last night at Morimoto, philadelphia, the top japanese res in the US. It was not bad, actually. eel liver on a stick. who would have thunk it?
I guess when you ask the sushi chef, "what is the most exotic thing on the menu?" you cant expect to not have to eat some raw eel livers!
